Children's Cancer and Haematology Services
Children's cancer and haematology services will move to the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford where a brand new children's cancer and haematology unit will be built. This will be based in the new Women and Children's Unit, which we expect to open in summer 2014.
The main reason for this change is because it is vital that children's cancer and haematology services stay with children's inpatient services, which are moving to Telford. This means that our children's doctors (paediatricians) will be on hand to look after all our young patients.
This has not been an easy decision to make, however we believe it is the only way we can continue to provide safe and high quality services for children in our county.
Working with you
We are committed to involving parents and families of the children's cancer and haematology services at every stage of this project and have held a series of focus groups to listen to their views and discuss issues in more detail. This includes the plans and physical environment of the new unit, clinical services, transport and access, and the legacy of the Rainbow Unit.

Get involved
It's not too late to get involved. The next Children's Cancer and Haematology Services Focus Group which was scheduled for Tuesday 1 May 2012 at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital has had to be postponed. We will publish a new date soon.
The Trust is also holding Legacy Task Group meetings for the Rainbow Unit.
If you are interested in taking part please email the project team via future@sath.nhs.uk
We are also interested in arranging a special focus group aimed at children and teenagers who are or have been a patient of the service so we can find out their views and ideas for the future. Please email the project team via future@sath.nhs.uk if your child would be interested in getting involved.
You are also welcome to come along to one of our regular Patient and Public Briefings, where you can find out the latest information about the changes and put your questions to our Chief Executive Adam Cairns. Find out the dates for our briefings here.
