Searching healthcare databases is a good way of finding journal articles, conference papers and sometimes reports or book chapters on specific topics.

NHS Healthcare Databases

The NHS Health Information Resources provides access to a range of databases including:

  • AMED (Complementary therapies and allied health)  
  • BNI (Nursing)
  • CINAHL (Nursing and allied health)
  • EMBASE (Medicine, surgery and pharmacology)
  • Health Business Elite (Health management and policy)
  • HMIC (Health management and policy)
  • MEDLINE (Medicine and surgery)
  • PsycINFO (Psychology and psychiatry)

An NHS Athens account is required. If you do not have one, you can register online for an NHS Athens account

BMJ Case Reports

BMJ Case Reports is a searchable database of case reports both from BMJ Group journals, and those submitted online. SaTH has an institutional membership, and our fellowship number is available from our Intranet page.

UpToDate

UpToDate is a clinical decision-making support tool that covers over 8,300 topics and provides 6,800 graded treatment recommendations covering 16 specialties, as well as over 450 patient information leaflets and 97 medical calculators.

  • Access to UpToDate is via the SaTH Intranet (off-site access is not available)
