Belinda is a Nursing Star
26 January 2012
Every month at the Trust Board meeting we celebrate NHS staff who do amazing things through the presentation of the Chairman's Award. This month's winner is Sister Belinda Wright from Ward 7 at PRH.
Commending Belinda to the Board, Trust Medical Director Dr Ashley Fraser said:
Every month our Chairman’s Award celebrates people who do amazing things.
They have normally been nominated either by a patient or relative, or by colleagues outside the Trust or by colleagues within the Trust.
It is very rare for someone to be nominated by all three.
But, Sister Belinda Wright is one of those special people whose passion and commitment has clearly shone through.
Many of you will have read about Belinda in our Christmas Stories newsletter at the end of last year. Belinda and colleagues made sure that every patient in the ward on Christmas Day had a present to open and a card for their bedside. It is these fantastic acts of human kindness and compassion that our patients really value.
Talking about Christmas on the ward, Belinda said “Some of our patients do not have much in the way of visitors themselves, so we try to bring a bit of Christmas to everyone so that no one is left out.”
Well, not only has Belinda shown that she is a true Christmas Star, but she has also been commended to the Board by patients and by colleagues.
A recent liver transplant patient commended Belinda and her colleagues for their “caring, devoted, thoughtfulness and kindness”.
Meanwhile, Bridgnorth Hospital Liaison Nurse Anne Wenlock highlighted how Belinda “is always very professional and treats everyone with respect. She gives the time needed to answer questions and provide support for patients transferring to the community hospital.”
These comments really highlight the things that our patients value. Caring. Devoted. Thoughtful. Professional. Respect.
As someone who is clearly Putting Patients First I have no hesitation in commending Sister Belinda Wright for the Chairman’s Award today.
Sister Wright received a Chairman's Award certificate, a Chairman's Award Winner lapel badge and a voucher on behalf of the Board.
