Top marks for the Trust

17 January 2012

A survey of doctors from across the UK has put The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust among the front runners when it comes the overall satisfaction with the training provided.

The results of the 2011 National Training Survey, which is carried out by the General Medical Council (GMC), has shown the Trust to be one of the highest ranking in UK in the eyes of those who have trained in Shropshire.

The surveys are a core part of the work that the GMC carries out each year to monitor the quality of medical education and training in the UK. Each year all doctors in the UK who are trainers or trainees are asked for their feedback across a range of services. Its purpose is to help local education providers improve their training practice.

Some of the highlights of this latest report came from the reviews provided by doctors who had trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The survey found that:

  • The overall satisfaction of trainees at the trust was the highest in the West Midlands
  • The Trust’s induction process ranked as being the best in the UK
  • The Trust came first in the region in terms of providing supervision, and was a national front runner in providing trainees with access to IT support and study resources
  • Trainees did not feel at all undermined by other staff at the Trust.

These results are a credit to everyone involved in training doctors at Trust.

Jane Panikkar, Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician at the Trust, said: “We are very pleased with the feedback we have received from this year’s GMC National Training Survey as it reflects the hard work that has been invested into making sure we are providing the highest quality training to our doctors.

“This will not only benefit patients across the NHS as a whole, but we hope it will also encourage many of these specialists to pursue their careers with the Trust once they have completed their training.

“Thank you to all colleagues and staff at the Trust for such fantastic results and their hard work.”
