The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is inviting local residents and interested patients and public to view and comment on the initial design of a new Women and Children’s Unit at the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH), which is planned for 2014.

The Trust is holding two drop-in sessions ahead of the formal planning application, where people are welcome to turn up at any time between:

  • 10am and 12pm on Tuesday, 13 December
  • 5pm and 7pm on Thursday, 15 December.

Both sessions will be held in the Lecture Theatre in the Education Centre at PRH. These events are being held as part of the planning process and therefore the Trust would particularly like to invite local residents who live near to the PRH to seek their views on the proposed development.

The Trust will submit a planning application for the development in the New Year. If successful then work will start on the new building from Spring 2012, with plans to open in 2014.

Adam Cairns, Chief Executive, said: “We are committed to providing the very best local hospital services in the future and are very excited about our plans for a new Women and Children’s Unit at the Princess Royal Hospital. I would like to thank all the clinical staff, patients, carers and families who have already contributed to the development of these plans through workshops, meetings and focus groups over the last few months.

“We hope that as many people as possible are able to attend our drop-in sessions, where you will have the chance to see the latest plans, find out more about the project and put your questions to our project team.”

Following these events, notice boards showing the plans will be available for patients and visitors to view at both the Princess Royal Hospital and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. They are also available to view on our website.
