Visitors and Patients to get Advice from Professionals

For immediate release: 14 February 2008

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust’s specialist Infection Control Nursing Team will be on-hand on Thursday 21 February at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital’s Outpatient reception to answer any questions visitors or patients may have about Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAIs).

This is the first of a series of monthly interactive public sessions being run by the team in the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital, which aims to provide some practical advice and guidance to members of the public, as well as dispelling some of the myths surrounding HCAIs.

“Good hand hygiene in a hospital is the cornerstone to minimising the spread of Healthcare Associated Infections,” comments Jan Heath, Infection Control Nurse at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.  “However, there are many different things that patients and visitors – as well as staff – can do to cut down the spread of these infections, and we are encouraging as many people as possible to come and find out how.”

The team will be available to talk to members of the public from 10am – 12pm on Thursday 21 February at the Outpatient’s Reception Area, Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.  More information about Infection Prevention and Control can be found on the Trust’s website at www.sath.nhs.uk.
