NHS Audiology Services in Shropshire

The Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Hospital Trust provides a comprehensive Audiology service for a population of 500,000 people in the rural county of Shropshire, offering a wide range of Audiology services for adults and paediatrics. The Audiology department provides support and services for deaf and hard of hearing people and have close working relatationships with Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeons, Education Services, Teachers of the Deaf, Employment & Social Services and voluntary bodies.

We fit the latest digital hearing aid technology to all of our patients.

You can be seen locally

Audiology services are provided in 17 different community clinics, which are located throughout Shropshire. The two main sites are at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.  

Short Waiting Times to be seen

There are short waiting times for NHS Audiology services with over 90% of patients having their hearing assessments between 3 - 6 weeks from the original GP referral. The department provides approximately 5,000 hearing assessments a year.  

High Quality Care and Expertise

In Shropshire, all of the Audiologists possess high-levels of expertise and fit quality digital hearing aids. We have members of staff who specialise in adult rehabiliatation, paediatrics, hearing therapy, tinnitus and balance. There are also Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) consultants and  ear-care nurses based at the two main sites.  

Excellent Links to Support Services

Additional support services are available to help patients make the most of their hearing aids. These include:  -

  •  Coping with a Hearing Loss through lip-reading course sponsored by Audiology and the Workers Educational Association 
  • The Effective Hearing Programme and Volunteer Support Service for new hearing aid users provided by the Sensory Resource and Development Service
  • Access to Assistive Listening Devices for home through Social Services or the workplace through Access to Work
