Macmillan Therapy
Therapists are involved in the treatment journey of most cancer patients, sometimes from the time of diagnosis and through until the palliative care stage for some patients. The Macmillan Therapy team delivers a valued service to Cancer and Palliative care in and out patients at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The team has a Dietitian, a Speech and Language Therapist, two Occupational Therapists in a job share arrangement, two Physiotherapists in a job share arrangement and two Technical Instructors. The team takes referrals from Medical and Nursing staff, Palliative care and Specialist Nurses and Therapy colleagues.

Nutrition and Dietetics
Dietitians are highly specialised practitioners uniquely qualified to translate scientific information about food and nutrition into practical dietary advice to promote health and treat disease. Dietitians support and advise clinicians in developing dignoses of nutritional problems.
They provide individualised dietetic intervention using their expertise in food/nutrient/drug interactions, enteral feeding, food fortificatoins and behavioural modificationand counselling skills.

Occupational Therapy
The Occupational Therapy department provides an assessment and rehabilitation service to both in-patients and outpatients. The In-patient wards include Orthopaedics, Acute Medicine/ Surgery, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Acute Stroke, and The Rehabilitation/Stroke unit. The outpatient service covers Medical/Neurological outpatient, Hand Therapy outpatient Unit and Amputee clinic.In addition to this we offer services in the Day Hospital at the Princess Royal Hospital.
A range of Stress management programmes are offered for individuals and certain groups such as Tinnitus and Cardiac Rehabilitation. All out-patient referrals are accepted from GPs, Consultants and Clinical Nurse/Therapist specialists.
Equipment is provided for discharge to enable independence with daily living activities. Equipment should be returned to:

Physiotherapy
The in-patient physiotherapy teams provide a comprehensive service of respiratory care and rehabilitation to all wards at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital.
Amputees
Patients must be referred from their Limb Fitting Centre. Any Amputee patient who requires information regarding the service may contact the department.
Vestibular Rehabilitation
Referrals for vestibular rehabilitation are accepted from Consultants only.
Hydrotherapy pool
At the present time we are only able to offer this service at the Princess Royal Hospital. <BR>

Speech and Language Therapy
The Speech and Language Therapy Service provide a comprehensive service to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH), Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) and the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH); also to all the outlying community hospitals including; Whitchurch, Bridgnorth, Ludlow and Bishop's Castle. We also provide outpatient clinics throughout the county and domiciliary visits where necessary and input to Rapid Response and Intermediate Care Teams county wide. We assess, diagnose and treat a range of disorders including; Speech and Language disorders, Dysphagia (Swallowing difficulties), Voice loss and Dysfluency (stammering).
Outpatient referrals from a GP is recommended for all groups mentioned above. Swallowing disorders require a written signature from a qualified member of the Hospital Multi-Disciplinary Team (with the exception of patients covered by the stroke care pathway). The service at the Princess Royal Hospital also includes the Day Hospital and TRASE (Telford Rapid Access Service for the Elderly). We operate a specialist Joint Consultant Clinic for voice and swallowing disorders at both sites.
