An Emergency Planning and Business Continuity Officer from The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust (SaTH) has been shortlisted for an award for her business continuity planning work.
Musilli Oshivire, Emergency Planning and Business Continuity Officer, has been shortlisted for the Business Continuity Institute (BCI) Europe Awards 2025 in the Continuity and Resilience Newcomer category. Musilli’s nomination reflects her contribution to improving assurance and preparedness at the Trust.
Musilli joined SaTH in January 2024 and quickly set out to improve the Trust’s Business Continuity assurance rating. Working closely with colleagues across different divisions, she led efforts to meet key targets such as Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) while strengthening staff capacity in managing business continuity and compliance.
She said: “Business continuity is about making sure an organisation can keep running during and after a disruption. That could be anything from a cyberattack or power cut to a flood or pandemic.
“In my first year, my main goal was to move the Trust’s business continuity assurance rating from ‘fair’ to ‘excellent’. By November 2024, we had achieved compliance in nine out of ten core standards – a major step forward. This helped raise our overall rating from 43% non-compliance in 2023 to 82% partial compliance in 2024. We’re now aiming for 91% substantial compliance in 2025.”
Musilli also led an evaluation into the migration of paper patient records to electronic ones, to understand staff experiences and identify lessons learned.
The findings, combined with learning logs, are helping to transform how the Trust approaches emergency planning and continuity. She works with colleagues to ensure adequate plans, training, exercises are completed for compliance and guidance and best practises.
Jo Williams, Chief Executive said: “We’re very proud of Musilli’s nomination. It reflects not only her hard work and professionalism, but also our commitment to preparedness and patient safety. This recognition on a European stage is well deserved.”
Winners will be announced later this year, with regional winners going forward to the BCI Global Awards 2025.
