Staff from Vital Energi currently delivering the £16.2 million decarbonisation project at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH), have raised nearly £5,000 to support bereavement facilities at the Trust’s hospitals.
The £4,740.75 donation will contribute towards the development of new Swan Rooms on Ward 37 at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Ward 14 at Princess Royal Hospital (PRH)
Swan Rooms provide privacy and dignity for patients receiving last hours and days end-of-life care, as well as a comfortable, private environment for their families to stay and spend valuable time together.
The rooms are being developed with support from the Swan Fund, which works to enhance last hours and days and bereavement care across The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH). It is hoped the new facilities will officially open in July.
To recognise the team’s contribution, commemorative plaques which will be displayed on the doors of the new Swan Rooms were presented to Vital Energi staff.
Lisa Martin, Social Value & Customer Care Manager at Vital Energi, said: “We’re pleased to support SaTH in enhancing the Swan Rooms as part of our wider decarbonisation project.
“While our work focuses on improving energy infrastructure, it’s important to us that we also make a meaningful difference to the communities in which we work. These spaces provide comfort, privacy and dignity for patients and their families at the most difficult of times, and we’re honoured to play a small part in that.”
Jules Lewis, Swan End of Life Care Facilitator/ Lead Nurse, said “The new Swan Rooms on Ward 37 at RSH and Ward 14 at PRH will provide dedicated spaces to support families during last hours and days and bereavement care. We only have one chance to get this care right for every person, every time and we are so grateful to Vital Energi for this generous donation to the Swan Fund for this project.
“We are aiming to officially open them in July to coincide with the Swan Fund’s 11th birthday – a very special way to mark the occasion.
“The plaques the team has received will take pride of place on the Swan Room doors, recognising their generous donation and support.”
Julia Clarke, Director of Public Participation said “Thank you to Vital Energi for their wonderful support of the Swan Rooms at SaTH. This generous donation will bring comfort to patients and families when it matters most, and we are very grateful for their partnership.”
