26 June 2026
Patients and visitors are being advised of temporary access changes near the Pathology department and Copthorne building at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital as work continues to support the development of new healthcare facilities.
Preparatory work is being carried out ahead of the delivery and installation of new generators, which will provide essential power for the new healthcare facilities currently under construction.
From Friday 26 June, work will begin to construct a temporary ramp at the Pathology entrance. Once this work has been completed, the existing ramp will close and access to Pathology will be maintained via the temporary ramp.
From Friday 3 July, construction hoarding will be extended across the pedestrian route between the Pathology entrance and the Copthorne building. As a result, the route between the main hospital and the Copthorne building via the Pathology entrance will be closed.
If you are visiting Ophthalmology/Eye department and Urgent Eye Clinic or Children’s Outpatients, please park in car park zone 0 and use the external walking route to the Copthorne building.
If you are visiting for an outpatient appointment or services within the main hospital please use the Ward Block entrance, Treatment Centre or entrance 3.
The cycle shelter currently located on the walkway will be relocated to the Copthorne building car park.
The temporary arrangements are expected to remain in place until we begin the generator deliveries. These access changes are required to enable the safe delivery and installation of the generators in October this year.
Later this year, a crane will be positioned in the turning circle near Pathology to lift the new generators into their permanent location on the former Elizabeth House site.
Patients and visitors are advised to follow signage around the site and allow extra time when attending appointments.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank patients, visitors and staff for their patience and understanding while these improvements are carried out.
