ModuleCo have been announced as the contractor for a new operating theatre at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH), supporting The Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Community and Hospitals NHS Group’s ongoing investment in modern healthcare facilities.
The 240 square metre facility will include a new ophthalmic operating theatre, featuring an Ultra Clean Ventilation (UCV) canopy, alongside a dedicated two-bed recovery area for patients following their procedures.
Construction is being undertaken in a modular approach – where ninety percent of construction is completed off-site meaning minimal disruption to patients and staff – and is expected to complete in early 2027.
Jonathan Brindley, Sales Director for ModuleCo, said: “We are delighted to be working with the Trust again to deliver this much-needed additional theatre capacity.
“We look forward to creating a facility that will support excellent patient care for many years to come.”
The new facility will enhance the progress The Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Hospital Trust (SaTH) are making in elective recovery. This includes being named the most improved Trust nationally for elective recovery (18-week referral to treatment) over the last year.
Groundworks are underway on the construction site, adjacent to Wards 38 and 39, which were also constructed by ModuleCo, which opened in December last year. Once complete, the theatre will connect to the two wards, strengthening access between surgical and rehabilitation teams.
Ned Hobbs, Group Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive (SaTH), said: “We’re pleased to be working with ModuleCo on this exciting development following the successful delivery of our two new wards last year.
“The new theatre and recovery bays will allow us to continue building on the fantastic progress we are making in planned care, allowing more patients to receive much-needed surgery quicker, in a modern, purpose-built environment. I look forward to seeing the project take shape over the coming months.”
