Here at the Trust we like to acknowledge the dedication and commitment of our colleagues and this Friday (4 March) we will be celebrating the contribution of our international staff for Overseas Workers Day.

It is an opportunity to recognise our internationally trained doctors, nurses and the other countless professions within the NHS. Here at SaTH I am proud to work alongside colleagues from all over the world, and all of whom are a valued and much appreciated part of our workforce.

Our Trust has previously held targeted recruitment drives and specialist overseas trips, including to Dubai and India, to bolster our clinical workforce, and those recruits have become key members of our teams.

Overseas Workers Day gives us the opportunity to mark the uniqueness, diversity, and skills that these workers bring to the NHS. Thank you for all that you do.

This is particular poignant at this moment with the current conflict in Ukraine. We are offering support to any of our colleagues who are affected by this as we realise what a difficult time it is for them.

Alongside Overseas Workers Day, we are always keen to recruit from closer to home as well and I would encourage people to consider joining us within the NHS. It is an interesting and varied career where you can help improve the care and services we provide to our, and your communities.

Tomorrow (Thursday 3 March) various departments from our Trust will be at Careers Fair at Shrewsbury Town Football Club to inspire budding health and social care professionals.

Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Integrated Care System (ICS) is hosting the Careers Fair, which is open for pre-booked parties of school and college students between 9am-3pm and then to members of the public from 3.30pm-6pm. You can register to attend the public event by clicking on the following link: https://bit.ly/3v5uln6.

Our Trust is joining other health and social care providers from across the county at the event, which promotes over 350 different professional roles available within the region. There is plenty to learn, and lots of opportunities to explore.

As well as offering the chance to speak to a number of trained professionals about their roles, including nursing, therapy, engineering and many more, the event will also provide attendees with the opportunity to learn about all the different career paths open across the county, including apprenticeships and academy training programmes.

There will also be an ‘employability zone’, supported by our recruitment teams, widening participation teams and education partners, to answer any employment queries as well as to explain what development pathways are available.

The Maternity Voices Partnership Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin will be holding a ‘Maternity Natters’ session on Thursday where service users are invited to share their experiences and ideas around respected and supported decision making in maternity care.

The themes, anonymised experiences, and ideas discussed in the virtual talk will be fed back to the Maternity Transformation Team at SaTH. This feedback will then be used to shape the planning and prioritisation of changes around “Respected and Supported Decision Making”, the next theme of our User Experience (UX) system.

The innovative UX System captures the feedback of those whose voices matter the most and focuses on a number of different key areas and themes to shape developments in our Maternity Services.
