A hospital consultant has been recognised in national Medical Educator Awards.
Dr Dodiy Herman, Emergency Medicine Consultant at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH), has been honoured with a highly commended recognition in the Outstanding Contribution to Teaching by an Individual category at the Medical Educator Awards 2025, presented by Medical Education Leaders UK.
Dr Herman who has worked at SaTH for 13 years has combined his passion of providing frontline emergency medicine with a commitment to education and mentorship.
In addition to his usual clinical responsibilities, Dr Herman also holds multiple leadership and educational roles within the Emergency Department and across the wider Trust.
As the Educational and Clinical Lead for Advanced Clinical Practitioners and a Clinical Educator, Dr Herman has mentored countless clinicians and played a crucial role in helping international medical graduates transition successfully into the NHS system.
Another key aspect of his work is supporting doctors to navigate the complex process of getting specialist registration by providing guidance, encouragement and resources to help them to reach their professional goals.
He’s also a vital member of the Trust’s Simulation Faculty, delivering cutting-edge, simulation-based education to healthcare professionals, ensuring they are well-prepared for the realities of clinical practice.
The highly commended recognition was a surprise to Dr Herman, who was nominated by the Trust’s Postgraduate Education Team.
Dr Herman said: “This recognition represents far more than a personal milestone. It stands as a testament to the profound power of education and the extraordinary efforts of the brilliant teams and individuals I have been fortunate to work alongside.
“For me, teaching is not merely about imparting knowledge. It is about lighting a spark – one that inspires others, ignites their natural curiosity, and empowers everyone to realise their fullest potential.”
Dr Herman has also championed the vision of creating an inspiring culture of educational excellence within the Trust, a foundation of curiosity, innovation, inclusivity and learning from industries beyond healthcare.
Dr John Jones, Medical Director, said: “We are incredibly proud of Dr Herman and his dedication to medical education. His impact is profound and lasting, and this recognition is well deserved.
“Congratulations to Dr Herman. I would like to thank his commitment to developing the future of healthcare.
“I would also like to congratulate Sam Funge, Head of Medical Education, for being shortlisted in the category Medical Education Manager of the Year.”
Dr Herman attended the Medical Educational Leaders Conference and the awards ceremony on Thursday 15 May.
