Six-year-old Daisy Webster has raised an incredible £1,870 for The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Charity after completing an amazing 25-mile bike ride in memory of her twin sisters, Aurora and Seren.

Daisy cycled from Newport, Telford to Stafford and back alongside her mum, Ella Webster, to raise money for families facing infant loss. Daisy took on this almighty cycling challenge after being inspired by the care and support her family received following the loss of her twin sisters during pregnancy, hoping to make a difference for other “mummies who have babies that don’t get to come home.”

A natural performer, Daisy loves dancing, gymnastics and singing, and has been attending Newport Shropshire Cycling Club (NSCC), which sparked her love for cycling. This made her fundraising challenge the perfect way to combine her passion with helping others and do something positive in memory of her sisters.

Ella, who is an Occupational Therapist at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, said: “I’ve been amazed by her determination and resilience. She loves a challenge and always likes to have something to work towards. She’s blown away by how much she’s raised.

“Daisy is such an empathetic little girl. She was only young when we lost the twins, but she remembers how she felt, she was very disappointed after thinking she was going to have two baby sisters but most of all she was very upset that I was unwell and had to be away from her in hospital. I think it’s that that inspired her to raise money for the bereavement team as she wants to help other mummies and families in the same position.”

The family have spoken about the support they received from the Trust’s Maternity Bereavement Team. Specialist midwives provided emotional support, memory boxes, photo albums and keepsakes to help them remember Aurora and Seren. They also attended a remembrance service on the Sabrina Boat in Shrewsbury for families who have experienced baby loss.

Ella added: “The maternity bereavement midwives have so much knowledge, understanding and compassion. We felt completely supported after losing the twins. The memory boxes, photo albums and teddy bear they gave us mean so much to our family, and Daisy often asks to look through her sisters’ memory boxes. We’ll always be grateful for everything they did for us.”

Julia Clarke, Director of Public Participation, said: “We are incredibly proud of Daisy for completing this amazing challenge in memory of Aurora and Seren. The £1,870 she has raised will make a real difference to families supported by our Maternity Bereavement Team. Thank you, Daisy, for your determination, kindness and support.”

The money raised by Daisy will help the Maternity Bereavement Team to continue providing specialist care, comfort and support to families experiencing the loss of a baby.
