A patient has raised an incredible £3,830 for Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Charity as a thank you for the care he received.
Tudur Evans was diagnosed with a rare condition and received treatment and support from The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust’s (SaTH) Hummingbird Service.
Wanting to give something back and help future patients, Dyffryn Banw YFC organised a fundraising darts night, while the wider community also came together to raise money through a number of smaller events.
With the incredible support of Tudur’s family, friends and the local community, an impressive total of £3,830 was raised.
To celebrate the achievement and see the impact his donation will have, Tudur and his sister Grug visited the Trust and met with Catherine Wakeley, Specialist Endocrine Nurse, and Dr Anna Green, Clinical Director for Diabetes and Endocrinology.
The funds raised will support the Hummingbird Service at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, helping to enhance the care and experience of future patients who access the service.
Tudur said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have raised this amount for the service. This incredible achievement is a testament to the generosity and support of everyone in the community who contributed. I would also like to say a huge thank you to the centre for their continued care and support. We as a family are truly grateful.”
Dr Anna Green, Clinical Director for Diabetes and Endocrinology, said: “It was a pleasure to meet Tudur and hear about the incredible effort that went into raising this fantastic amount. The Hummingbird Service supports people living with complex endocrine conditions, and donations such as this help us continue to improve the experience of patients using the service. We are extremely grateful for Tudur’s kindness and support.”
Julia Clarke, Director of Public Participation at SaTH, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Tudur for this wonderful donation and for turning his personal experience into something that will benefit others.
“Fundraising efforts like this make a real difference, enabling us to provide additional support and enhancements that go beyond NHS funding. On behalf of everyone at the Trust and Hospital Charity, I would like to thank Tudur, his family and friends for their generosity and commitment to helping future patients.”
Tudur’s fundraising is a testament to the difference that patients and their families can make when they choose to give back to the services that have supported them.
