The first phase of a multi-million pound investment at Princess Royal Hospital in Telford is close to completion.

The re-developed main entrance will transform the ‘front door’ of the hospital improving the experience for everyone.

Patients, visitors and staff will soon be able to enjoy a brand-new Costa Coffee, with further retail offers including a convenience store to follow soon. The Costa Coffee store will serve the same beverage range as its High Street stores, as well as a select range of food including toasties and breakfast items.

The store will also include self-service kiosks, a Click & Collect service available via the Costa Club app and a partnership with Too Good to Go, helping minimise food waste. This new offer will complement the existing catering arrangements within the hospital.

To support with this offer, the Trust has partnered with noviniti and Compass Group UK & Ireland’s One Retail.

The two-storey development will also support the Trust’s valued clinical and administration teams through additional, modern workspaces.

Phase two of the multi-million pound investment includes the opening of the dedicated planned care hub in early 2024, including new theatres and patient consultation rooms. Together, this means the Trust will be able to provide more day case surgery at Telford, reducing waiting times and improving the patient experience.

Louise Barnett, Chief Executive of The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH), said: “We are delighted to be working with our retail and hospitality partners to increase the facilities that we are able to offer our patients, visitors and staff. They will complement the catering offer we already have in place, enabling us to improve the experience for everyone using the hospital. This development is part of our ambitious plans to improve care through two thriving hospitals.

“We would like to thank our patients and colleagues for their ongoing patience and understanding during the building works as we continue to invest in improving care for all our communities.”

Andrew Jones, Managing Director at One Retail, said: “It has been a great opportunity to partner with SaTH bringing one of our trusted partners, Costa, to the new front entrance. We are sure that those visiting the hospital will enjoy an improved choice.”

Marc Hastings, CEO of noviniti said: “noviniti is proud to be the appointed development partner for SaTH to deliver the new two-storey main entrance and administration hub at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford. We are delighted that our partnership with One Retail brings innovation to the forefront of the hospital and, together with the Costa Coffee and improved pathway into the hospital, the staff, patient and visitor experience will be greatly enhanced.”

Steve Flavell, Construction Manager, Morris Property, said: “During the three-month design period and nine months of construction, we’ve managed the challenges of a live hospital site to deliver the project on time and in budget. From the new link canopy and footway at the main entrance, to the reception area and offices, we’re very proud of the level of quality achieved and are looking forward to seeing patients directly benefiting from the improved facilities.”
