Pregnant women will be able to listen to their own music whilst giving birth at the Midwife Led Unit in Telford – thanks to a kind donation.
Healthwatch Telford and Wrekin (HWTW) donated a set of portable Bluetooth speakers to the Wrekin Midwife-Led Unit (MLU) at the Princess Royal
Hospital in Telford on Tuesday (20 December 2016).
After visiting the MLU with Healthwatch Shropshire, HWTW was made aware that the unit only had access to CD players.
Kate Ballinger, Chief Officer of HWTW, presented the speakers to staff from the Women and Children’s Care Group. The speakers will be available to be used in the Delivery Rooms in the Wrekin MLU.
Kate said: “Most people like to listen to music on their mobile phones now, so it seems sensible for them to have the option to connect to them when giving birth.
“We are delighted that Healthwatch Telford and Wrekin was able to help with this. Through our involvement with the Maternity Engagement Group (MEG), HWTW is aware that there are 13 other delivery rooms in Telford and Shropshire that would benefit from similar devices.”
Wendy Cutchie, Lead Midwife for Midwifery Led Units and Community Midwifery Services at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, said: “We’re delighted with this opportunity to offer an additional form of relaxation for women in labour.
“This is a lovely early Christmas present for the Wrekin Midwife Led Unit and the women who use our service. On behalf of the unit, I’d like to thank Healthwatch Telford & Wrekin for this kind donation.”
