7 April 2026
From Friday 10 April to Sunday 12 April, essential construction work will be taking place at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH). While there may be some temporary changes to access routes and parking, all hospital services remain open and operating as normal.
Construction activity includes:
- Relocation of the modular building at the front of the Emergency Department
The building will be relocated to the north of the site, near the new Ward 38 and 39. A site map showing the relocation can be seen on our website. This is so refurbishment and remodelling of ED currently underway at RSH can continue to create a dedicated children’s emergency care footprint, ready for 2028.
The Emergency Department (A&E) will be open throughout this work. Please continue to access services as you currently do and help us by thinking which service is best for your needs.
Patients and visitors arriving to the ED (walk-ins) are to follow the directions of traffic marshals on site who will help guide you safely to the ED entrance. If you are not sure where to go, please ask someone to help you.
- Crane lifts of heating and cooling equipment to new healthcare facilities
A crane will be used to lift infrastructure for heating and cooling onto the new healthcare facilities currently under construction. The crane will be installed on the car park next to the Copthorne Building. Therefore, the car park and pedestrian footpaths will be temporarily closed from 6pm on Friday 10 April until 5pm on Sunday 12 April.
Patients attending services within the Copthorne Building (including ophthalmology, maternity outpatients, and renal) over this weekend will access the building through the Evolution Suite on Evolution Road, where parking is available. The Evolution Suite and parking can be seen in the site map below.

If you are visiting Royal Shrewsbury Hospital over this weekend, please follow the signage and directions from the traffic marshals on site.
