Jules Lewis, Swan End of Life Care Lead Nurse, and Heather Pitchford, Staff Bereavement Support Trained Volunteer, successfully took on a 30-mile walk across Wales to raise money. Jules said the walk on Saturday 20 June was ‘an amazing event to be part of’, with the ‘most amazing scenery of parts of Wales I was lucky to grow up in.’
The Swan Fund, part of Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Charity, was set up by Jules in 2015 when her dad died on AMU at RSH in July 2015, and the walk took place on what would have been Jules’ dad’s birthday.
The event was a great success, raising a total of £1,117 for the Swan Fund and The MovementCentre in Oswestry. Money raised will be used to improve Swan Model of Care resources to support people’s last
hours and days care at SaTH.
The Movement Centre operates at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital. The charity provides specialist physiotherapy provision to transform the lives of children with movement disabilities- as it celebrates its 30-year anniversary this year.
Following the walk, Jules said: “My legs are starting to recover, but it was tough, so many hills! I am so grateful to Heather for doing this with me on what would have been dad’s birthday. She is super fit and a super star.”
The Swan Fund’s 11th Birthday was on 10 July and has raised over £113,000 over 11 years – an average of £10,000 a year. Well done to Jules and Heather for raising money for the charities.
