The teams taking part in the charity football match

Nearly 200 members of staff of The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) laced up their boots and took to the pitch for a charity football tournament, raising more than £5,500 for the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Charity.

The tournament, organised by Mark Rawlings, a porter at the hospital, and Nicola Brockley, Manager of the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Charity, brought together 15 teams from across the Trust for a day of friendly competition, teamwork and fundraising, with colleagues demonstrating they are just as committed outside of work as they are in it.

After a series of closely contested matches at the end of May, Sathletico Madrid lifted the trophy, with SaTHhampton finishing runners-up and CPRcelona securing third place. Special recognition also goes to the AMFU Ladies Team, who were awarded the fundraising prize after raising an outstanding £1,900, making a significant contribution to the overall total.

While there could only be one winner on the pitch, the real victory belonged to the patients who will benefit from the funds raised. The money will help enhance support and experiences for people living with dementia in our hospitals.

Julia Clarke, Director of Public Participation said: “What a fantastic day from start to finish. It was wonderful to see so many colleagues coming together, showing incredible team spirit and enthusiasm while supporting such an important cause.

“The atmosphere throughout the tournament was brilliant, and the amount raised is a testament to everyone’s hard work and generosity. The event was also attended by Mayor Bernie Bentick who welcomed participants and helped celebrate the achievements of the teams involved so thank you for being involved.

“Every pound raised will help us improve the experience of patients living with dementia in our hospitals. I’d like to thank every player, supporter, volunteer, sponsor and organiser who helped make the event such a success. It truly was a winning day for everyone involved.”

“The tournament proved that when colleagues come together, they can score far beyond the final whistle. With nearly 200 participants and thousands of pounds raised, the event was a resounding success and a powerful demonstration of the Trust community’s commitment to supporting patients and their families.”
