The below provides and update on the latest works at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital site. These include the works under the Hospitals Transformation Programme (HTP) which is key to transforming health and care services across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, and mid-Wales.

We are progressing through the final stage of national approval for the HTP development. We have received planning permission for the works at RSH.

Enabling works

We are excited to announce that the first enabling works have started on site. We will keep you updated with these works and other estates activity through a regular newsletter. Our contractors, Integrated Healthcare Projects (IHP), have commenced work on site. These works include temporary site cabins and hoardings which, due to the nature of the works, need to be close to the Emergency Department. These will be located on the main car park, close to the entrance on Mytton Oak Road.

Our contractors, IHP, are members of the Considerate Constructors Scheme which seeks to respect communities impacted by building work. We recognise that during these development works we will need to work differently, and we are committed to minimising the impact on our neighbours, patients and staff as much as possible. We will be ensuring that there is appropriate signage on our sites to help patients know where to park and how to access services. In addition to the main building improvements our works will also include upgrades to site wide infrastructure. Long-term we know that these vital works will improve care for all our communities and whilst these works have commenced, we thank you for your patience and understanding.

As the enabling works have now commenced, we have organised the next neighbour’s drop-in session on Thursday 29 February, 4pm – 7pm, to give neighbours the opportunity to meet the project team and find out more about the works. Find more information in our neighbour’s newsletter.

Update on new modular building

We will also keep you updated on other improvement works happening on the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital site. You may have seen hoarding has been set up at the front of our site on Mytton Oak Road. We are proposing to construct a new two-storey building that will create much-needed additional wards. These will support patients with rehabilitation and recovery, increase our resilience during extreme pressures and also reduce delays and waiting times in our Emergency Department.
