Members of staff from the Facilities Department at Shropshire’s two acute hospitals have completed a new Supervisor Development Programme.
The six-day programme, which took place one day a month over six months, was completed by 14 members of staff from teams such as Domestics, Catering and Portering at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.
The programme was designed by Shelly Gooding, Hygiene and Compliance Officer, and Mary Beales, Head of Education, following a brief from the Head of Facilities, Joanne Yale, to develop the skills of the team’s supervisors and managers at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.
Tom George, Corporate Education Manager, who led the programme, said: “The programme went really well. It was fascinating to have such a mixture of different types of people, and it was great how they all learned from one another.
“The programme was such a resounding success that we will be running a further four cohorts in 2017 with the aim of creating and developing great supervisors for today and in the future.”
The programme is a mixture of general management skills, Human Resources (HR) briefings and specialist workshops.
Everyone who completed the course was presented with a certificate from Julia Clarke, Director of Corporate Governance at SaTH.
