The following information is from our colleagues at Telford & Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG)

Telford residents who have Type 2 diabetes are being urged to book a place on a free course to learn what they can do to manage their condition.

There are 500 places available on the 2.5 hour course which will give patients a better understanding of diabetes and tips on how they can manage their condition to stay well and avoid being admitted to hospital.

The course, which is delivered by specialist diabetes nurses from Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust, is part of Telford & Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG) commitment to empowering patients to care for themselves where possible.

Dr Adam Pringle from Telford & Wrekin CCG said: “Over 10,000 people living in Telford and Wrekin have been diagnosed with diabetes, and prevention and treatment of the condition is a top priority for us.

“Whether patients are newly diagnosed or have had Type 2 diabetes for a number of years, these courses will give them the confidence and knowledge to manage their condition themselves and know when and how to get more help if they need it.”

Fiona Smith, a diabetes specialist nurse from Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust said: “The course is a great way for diabetes patients to learn what they can do to make living with the condition a bit easier and to meet others who have the condition.

“The course will cover a number of topics, including monitoring blood glucose levels and how to manage diabetes with food and medication.”

If you’d like more information about the course, or book a place, please contact Sally or Sophie from the diabetes specialist service on 01952 581 109.
