The Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Quality at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) is to leave her post to take up a new role closer to her family.
Deirdre Fowler, who has been with SaTH since May 2017, is taking up a new post with Bedford Hospital NHS Trust.
Deirdre joined SaTH, which runs the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, from her role as Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Quality at Hinchingbrooke Health Care NHS Trust.
Deirdre said the decision to take on the new role had been a difficult one, but she was excited about the prospect of working closer to home.
She said: “I have very much enjoyed my time at SaTH and would like to thank everybody for the support they have given me in my time here. I don’t think a day goes by when I don’t witness, or hear of, something that makes me proud of the tremendous work our teams do every day to provide the best care possible in what can be very difficult circumstances.
“It will be hard to leave those teams, but I am looking forward to a new challenge with the added attraction that I will be based closer to home. The exact date I will be leaving has not yet been finalised as I want to ensure that I leave at a time which suits all parties involved.
“My role here has been a challenging one and there have been some very tough times, but I am very proud to be a part of Team SaTH at a time when a positive decision has been made about the future of our hospitals.
“I believe, both as a nurse, midwife and as a service-user, that the reconfiguration of our hospitals offers the best solution to improve healthcare and outcomes for all of the population that the hospitals serve.
“Of course, we are only at the start of that transformation. There are exciting and, yes, challenging times ahead for the Trust, but I believe SaTH can achieve great things and I look forward to keeping up-to-date with the news as it progresses.”
