A temporary food hub is now being moved back into the Apley Restaurant area of the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) as work progresses to safely remove Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC).

Specialist teams have removed RAAC panels and are close to finishing this phase of the work, so that the servery, which will provide temporary catering facilities for patients, staff and visitors, can now move back from the ground floor to the first floor.

Apley Food Hub will be on the first floor opposite the Elective Surgery Hub

The Apley Food Hub close to the conservatory on the ground floor will close from 4pm today (Thursday 16 April) for the switch to take place and the servery will reopen on the first floor at 9am on Tuesday 21 April.

The kitchen and Apley Restaurant at PRH have been closed since the RAAC was identified in Autumn 2023.

Matt Neal, Group Director of Estates, Facilities, HTP, Capital and MES, said: “It is fantastic to see that the next phase of the work is due for completion with the servery now moving back to the Apley Restaurant area on the first floor.

“We would like to thank all the teams who have worked so hard to ensure that the servery moves back and that a food service continues for our patients, visitors and colleagues.

“I would also like to thank our patients, visitors and staff for their continued patience and understanding during these works.”

  • The servery’s opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am-4pm. They are closed at weekends and bank holidays.
  • The takeaway service offers a range of meals, including main meals, baked potatoes, salads, sandwiches and hot and cold drinks.

Seating is available in the downstairs conservatory.

During the move between floors, Caffe Bistro in the Women and Children’s Foyer will be open 9am-4pm.
