The NHS in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin is asking women, their partners and families to get involved in shaping local maternity services.
NHS organisations, Healthwatch and local councils, are working together as a Local Maternity System (LMS) to design and implement improvements in maternity and neonatal services.
We need the experiences and views of women, their partners and families who have recently used the services to help us understand what women and their families want and need at every stage of their journey.
The LMS has been set up in response to NHS England’s Better Births report which sets out a vision for safer, more personalised maternity care that reflects women’s choices and offers continuing joined-up care.
The Midwife-led Unit review led by Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group that is currently under way, forms part of the LMS and is leading the way in involving women and their families to design improved services for women and their babies.
Christine Morris, Executive Nurse and lead for the Local Maternity System said: “Better Births gives us a fantastic opportunity to look at the services we currently offer women during and after their pregnancy, and what we can do to make them safer and more personalised.
“We can’t do this successfully without the input of women, their partners and families who have used or are currently using the services. Working together we can try to make every woman’s experience of the care they receive before, during and after pregnancy a more positive one.”
