NHS Improvement has today confirmed the appointment of three new Non-Executive members of The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH).
Dr David Lee and Dr Chris Weiner have joined the SaTH Board as Non-Executive Directors. They are joined by Terry Mingay, who has joined as a Designate Non-Executive Director.
Professor Peter Latchford, Chair of SaTH, said: “I am delighted that David, Chris and Terry have joined our Trust Board. They are three first class appointments and I’m sure each of them will help us to ensure the Trust is the best it can be as we continue our journey to provide the safest and kindest care in the NHS.
“I’d like to welcome each of them to our Board and look forward to working with them.”
Dr Lee has been a GP for 29 years and has worked in medical leadership roles within both the NHS and the independent sector. He is currently the Medical Director of CSC, a multi-national corporation that provides information technology services and professional services. He combines this leadership role with work as a GP in Shropshire.
Dr Lee is a committed proponent of clinical leadership and the benefit of effective clinical leadership for patients using health services and for the organisations responsible for providing or commissioning them. In addition to his medical qualifications gained from Manchester University, Dr Lee has an MBA from Leeds University and is currently training as an executive coach. Dr Lee and his family moved to Shropshire 12 years ago and have lived in rural South Shropshire, in Shrewsbury and now Wellington.
Dr Lee said: “I am delighted to be appointed as a Non-Executive Director. These are exciting times for healthcare within Shropshire and I hope to make a contribution to a local NHS that delivers great care and is a great place to work.”
Dr Weiner is a Public Health specialist with extensive experience in the NHS and also local government. Over the years, he has worked in NHS organisations to improve health and well-being in both Telford and Shrewsbury. He moved to Shropshire 18 years ago and considers this to be very much home for himself and his family.
Dr Weiner said: “Shropshire is a great place to live and bring up my family. I love the people, the communities and the countryside. I am very much looking forward to working as a Non-Executive Director at SaTH. There are decisions to be made in the NHS over the next few years that will influence the lives of us all. We all need to play our part in doing our best for the citizens of Shropshire.”
Mrs Mingay started her career in the NHS as a general and subsequently a mental health nurse 38 years ago in London. She worked in London and in the West Midlands, holding a variety of posts including Nurse Director, Human Resources Director, Deputy Chief Executive and Managing Director of a Community Health NHS Provider.
Upon retirement from salaried employment in 2011, Mrs Mingay established herself as a freelance healthcare consultant with much of her work involved in clinical quality initiatives. Between 2011 and 2015 she spent a large proportion of time undertaking consultancy projects with both Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Groups, which gave her an insight and interest in the areas that SaTH serves. She is currently a Board member of a Social Housing Provider and a Trustee of a hospice in Staffordshire where she lives.
Mrs Mingay said: “Having spent the majority of my working life in and around the NHS I am committed to continuing to support the development of services and the constant improvement of quality and safety. I feel delighted and privileged to be given the opportunity to be involved with this organisation.”
The appointments were made by NHS Improvement, which is responsible for appointing all chairs and Non-Executives to NHS trusts throughout England.
All appointments are subject to the Code of Practice of the Commissioner for Public Appointments, and made following an open competition based on merit, in a way that is open, transparent and fair to all applicants.
Dr Lee, Dr Weiner and Mrs Mingay’s first terms of office will run from 2 December 2016 until 1 December 2018 and each are entitled to receive remuneration of £6,157 per annum for which they are expected to devote 2.5 days per month to their duties as Non-Executives. None of them have declared any political activity in the last five years and they have no other Ministerial appointments.
Non-Executive Directors have voting rights. A Designate Non-Executive Director does not have any voting rights on the Board but can contribute to discussions.
