Men Like Us, a cancer support group for men across Shropshire, is set to relaunch this autumn at a new community venue, Ludlow Fire Station.
The group provides a welcoming, informal space where men affected by cancer can come together to share experiences, receive support, and connect with others who understand the challenges of living with and beyond cancer.
The relaunch marks an exciting new chapter for Men Like Us, offering members a fresh venue in the heart of the community and renewed opportunities to reach more local men who may benefit from peer support.
Its first meeting at Ludlow Fire Station is Tuesday 6 October. The move reflects the group’s commitment to creating an accessible and comfortable environment where members can meet regularly, build friendships, and gain practical and emotional support.
Cancer can often leave men feeling isolated, and Men Like Us, which is run by The Personalised Care Team in Cancer Services at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust (SaTH) along with volunteers, aims to break down barriers by encouraging open conversation in a relaxed, supportive setting.
Whether someone has recently received a diagnosis, is undergoing treatment, is living with the long-term effects of cancer, or is caring for a loved one, all are welcome to attend.
Graham Cheshire, Men Like Us Lead Volunteer, said: “Men Like Us was founded on a simple idea – that no man affected by cancer should feel he has to face it alone.
“Moving our Ludlow group to Ludlow Fire Station is a really positive step. We are delighted to have been welcomed by the Fire Service, and their support reflects the strength of the community behind what we are trying to achieve.
“The fire station is a familiar and trusted place, and we hope the move will encourage more men to come along, have a coffee, meet others and share experiences in a relaxed and supportive environment.
“As a founder volunteer, living in Ludlow, I want to make sure that every man affected by cancer knows there is somewhere he can turn – and that there are people who understand.”

New members are warmly welcomed, and there is no need for previous attendance or referral.
