3 April 2019

Due to a number of cases of diarrhoea and vomiting, it has been necessary to close Ward 22 T&O at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

The ward is closed to new admissions and unfortunately, visitors will not be allowed onto the affected ward unless there is a clinical need or if the patient is receiving end of life care. If you are in any doubt, please contact the ward before travelling.

Diarrhoea and vomiting are common in adults, children and babies. They’re often caused by a stomach bug and should stop in a few days.

The advice is the same if you have diarrhoea and vomiting together or separately.

You can usually treat yourself or your child at home. The most important thing is to have lots of fluids to avoid dehydration. You can find out more here.

To help prevent the spread of infection, please do not visit hospitals or care homes if you, or the people you live with, have had diarrhoea, vomiting or flu-like symptoms in the last 48 hours.

If you do need to visit, please make sure you wash your hands thoroughly.

If you are unsure whether to visit, please feel free to contact the ward you intend to visit before you come into hospital.
