Complete Your Volunteering Section with Us

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is proud to be an Approved Activity Provider (AAP) for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.

We offer a range of meaningful volunteering opportunities that allow young people to develop new skills, gain experience, support their local NHS and make a positive difference to their community while completing their DofE volunteering section.

Opportunities for Under 16s

Young people under the age of 16 can complete their volunteering section through off-site volunteering activities.

This may include:

  • Planning and executing a fundraising activity for the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Charity
  • Help spread a little positivity by creating cards, letters or artwork with encouraging messages for patients, visitors and staff. Your contributions will be shared across the Trust to provide comfort, reassurance and a smile to those who may need it most. All correspondence is managed through the Volunteer Services Team to ensure privacy and safety for everyone involved.
  • Support patients, staff and services across the Trust by raising funds for SaTH Charity. Young people can organise their own fundraising challenge or take part in a group fundraising project through their school, college or community group. From bake sales and sponsored events to larger school-led initiatives, every contribution helps make a difference.

Participants aged 16 and over are eligible to undertake a range of on-site volunteering roles across the Trust.

These roles provide valuable experience within a healthcare environment while supporting patients, visitors and staff. Please note that some volunteer roles are restricted to those aged 18 and over due to the nature of the work and the environments involved.

All Duke of Edinburgh volunteers will be assigned a designated member of staff who will provide support throughout their volunteering journey, helping them achieve their goals and complete their Award requirements.

For on-site volunteering opportunities, participants will also be required to:

  • Complete the Trust’s volunteer recruitment process
  • Undertake any necessary recruitment checks
  • Attend volunteer training and induction sessions
