Friends of Princess Royal Hospital
There is a very active Friends group supporting the Princess Royal Hospital, which raises money to buy much needed equipment for the hospital. The money is raised from donations, legacies, fundraising activities and the profits from our on-site shop.
Friends of Princess Royal Hospital, then known as League of Friends of the Telford and East Shropshire Hospital, was formed by Mrs Margaret Hobbs, Mrs Naomi Evans, Mr Ray Hall and Mr Philip Morris-Jones was the first Chairman. The Charity was registered on 2nd March 1985, prior to the hospital opening in June 1985.
The aim of Friends is to provide a service for patients, visitors and staff and to purchase equipment for the Princess Royal Hospital. Friends of PRH have currently raised well over £3 million pounds for the Hospital. (Registered Charity No. 516697)
The Princess Royal, Princess Anne, officially opened the hospital in 1990 which now bears her name. She then opened the Paul Brown Day Hospital in 1998 and in January 2015 opened the new, state-of-the-art Women and Children’s Centre, which serves Telford and Wrekin, wider Shropshire and Mid Wales.
The Charity became a Limited Company in October 2012 and the Coffee Shop is now run by a Board of Directors in conjunction with the Manager. Committee Members attend a meeting six times a year where we welcome visits from Hospital Staff who require much needed equipment for the hospital.
