Travelling to the Princess Royal Hospital

Travelling by Bus

The Princess Royal Hospital has two bus stops near the main entrance and mainly receives buses from Wellington, Leegomery, and Telford Town Centre. There are Bus Stations situated in the centre of both Wellington and Telford.

The number 15 Telford to Arleston via Oakengates, Wombridge, Hadley, Leegomery, Princess Royal Hospital, Welllington and Dothill .

The number 16 Telford to High Ercall via Malinslee, Dawley Bank, Overdale, Hadley, Princess Royal Hospital, Wellington, Dothill, Admaston, Shawbirch, Rodington and Roden.

The number X5 offers 10 return journeys per day between Shrewsbury Bus Station and Telford Bus Station taking 30 minutes.

Concessionary Travel Scheme for Bus users
The Telford and Wrekin Concessionary Travel Scheme offers a number of different travel opportunities for residents who are age eligible, or people with disabilities who qualify under certain criteria. http://www.telford.gov.uk/info/1019/transport_and_travel/499/concessionary_travel

The scheme includes the new English Concessionary Travel Pass, which allows free travel on local bus services throughout England, between 9.30am and 11pm Monday to Friday and at any time on Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays

Travelling by Train

Train stations are situated in Wellington and Telford.

Wellington station is the closest to the Hospital. Wellington Bus Station is within walking distance of the train station. Alternatively, the Hospital is approximately a 10 minute drive from Wellington Station bus services and taxis are available outside the station.

The Hospital is approximately a 15 minute drive from Telford Station and taxis are available outside the station.

Trains from across the region serve these stations:

  • Shrewsbury to Wellington -12 minute journey.
  • Chester to Wellington direct line, via Shrewsbury, Gobowen, Chirk, Wrexham and Chester
  • Welshpool to Wellington, stations Shrewsbury, Welshpool, Newtown, Caersws, Aberystwyth and Pwllheli.
  • Telford-Wolverhampton line to Shifnal, Cosford, Albrighton and stations to Wolverhampton, Birmingham and London.
  • Change at Shrewsbury for the Marches line to Church Stretton, Ludlow and Hereford.
  • Change at Shrewsbury for the Shrewsbury-Crewe line to Yorton, Wem, Prees, Whitchurch and stations to Crewe and Manchester.

If you live nearby and are fit and well, we encourage you to walk or cycle to our hospitals. The Princess Royal Hospital is approximately one mile from Wellington railway station.

Bicycle Parking
The trust provides “Sheffield” style cycle parking stands racks which are situated around the hospital grounds including two covered bicycle shelters. These shelters are located next to the Main Entrance and opposite the Women and Childrens centre.

Directions

From the West (Shrewsbury A5) 

  • Travel on the A5 signposted Shrewsbury.
  • Join the M54 signposted Telford.
  • Leave the M54 at Junction 6 (signposted to Hospital).
  • At the roundabout at the top of the motorway exit slip road, take the 1st exit onto Whitchurch Drive (A5223).
  • Stay on the A5223 at the next three roundabouts.
  • At the fourth roundabout take the third exit into the Princess Royal Hospital main entrance (signposted).

From the South East (Birmingham M6)

  • At Junction 10A of the M6 join the M54 (signposted North Wales, Mid Wales and Telford).
  • Leave the M54 at Junction 6 (signposted to Hospital).
  • At the roundabout at the top of the motorway exit slip road, take the 3rd exit onto Whitchurch Drive (A5223).
  • Stay on the A5223 at the next three roundabouts.
  • At the fourth roundabout take the third exit into the Princess Royal Hospital main entrance (signposted).

From the North East (Newport)

  • Follow the A518 south west towards Telford
  • At the A442 junction turn right northbound towards Whitchurch
  • At the A5223 take the first exit southbound towards Telford
  • At the next roundabout take the first exit onto the hospital site
