Changes happening to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital from Monday 29 July

The ongoing construction projects at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) will enable us to deliver high quality healthcare through modern, purpose-built facilities. We are now completing the final preparations and enabling works at the hospital so we can begin construction on a new four-storey expansion of healthcare facilities at RSH. Due to the volume of construction taking place at the site, we will be changing how staff, patients and visitors access and enter the hospital. We are making these changes to minimise the impact during the works, which are expected to take a number of years. Keep up to date with our construction progress here.

Find which entrance and car parking zone is the most appropriate for you

Following the closure of the main Outpatients entrance, all other entrances into the hospital will remain open. Once inside our hospital, please follow the internal signage, look out for site maps to help you, and if you are unsure of where to go please ask a member of staff or a volunteer who will be happy to help.

This entrance will remain open for walk-ins. The nearest public car parking is Car Park Zones 0 and 1 and there is a drop-off car parking space outside our Emergency Department if required.

The Copthorne Building (Entrance 0) will remain open and accessible to patient and visitors. There are a small number of drop-off only spaces outside this entrance.

  • Copthorne Building: Ophthalmology/Eye department and Urgent Eye Clinic, Ward 35 (Renal), Children’s Outpatients, Supported Discharge (Ward 18)
  • Mytton Oak House: Antenatal Clinics, Emergency Pregnancy Assessment Service (EPAS)

Car Parking Zone 0 can also be used for services within Mytton Oak House.

We ask patients to be aware that there is no internal route from the Copthorne Building to the main hospital building and we therefore recommend that Car Parking Zones and Entrances 1-3 are used for services within the main hospital building.

The current Ward Block entrance (Entrance 1) will remain open and accessible to patients and visitors. Patients arriving by bus will be dropped off at this entrance.

Ward Block (Entrance 1) and Car Parking Zone 1 is most appropriate for the services below:

  • Wards 21 – 28

The current Treatment Centre entrance (Entrance 2) provides the largest volume of Patient/Visitor Car Parking and allows access to all of the services/departments located within the main hospital building. Park in Car Park Zone 2 and follow the internal signage or ask a member of staff for directions.

Entrance 2 (Treatment Centre) and Car Parking Zone 2 is most appropriate for the services below:
